The brief

With Tanoti Crafts, document the art of pua kumbu, the Iban ritual textile whose designs, weavers say, come to them in dreams.

Our approach

We spent time in the longhouse with the weavers, from gathering at the river and preparing the threads to tying the patterns and working the loom. We let them tell how the craft passes from mother to daughter, and what it means to keep it alive.
